Ethics in Small Businesses
Ethics are moral principles that govern a person's or group's behavior.
Practical applications of Ethics in business includes competition, integrity, methodology, legacy, and beliefs.
Competition is the activity or condition of competing.
- example: what separates your business from others? USP
- example: how many competitors are there?
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
- example: what do you do if you make a mistake?
- example: what do you do if you have a client that doesn't like you?
- example: what do you do if you do not offer that specific service?
Methodology is a system of methods for a particular area of study or activity. (how you operate!)
- example: how do you communicate, phone, email?
- example: what is your daily/weekly schedule?
Legacy is a thing handed down by a predecessor.
- example: how would you run a business that you inherited?
Beliefs is an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists. Your business Mission and Vision. see previous post
- example: what if someone asks you to copy or re-create something someone else did?
- example: what if someone asks you to do a service that you do not offer.
Know what you believe and remind yourself constantly.
