Press Release

Brought to you by Zoomba, Android Application Development

Hey, this is Bryan with Zoomba.tv and we are here at the CTIA Wireless Convention. We are talking to Claudia Romanini Backus, Director of Developer Relations for The Nook, Barnes and Noble; We are going to speak to her a little bit about The Nook! Can you tell us a little bit about how that works and what your roles and responsibilities are there? [Claudia] Sure this is the Nook's Reader Tablet, the Nook Color that sells for $249. It's a readers tablet so it's primarily used for reading books and magazine, kids books, but in addition to that we are also featuring the apps, 3rd party apps, on our device. [Bryan] That's something new for me; I thought it was just for books. How does it work on application development? [Claudia] Actually, as of april this year, we launched Nook apps, 3rd party apps, functionality on the Nook color. And you can download apps from our Barnes and Noble store front on the device or online at bn.com. Any developer that is interested in developing for Nook Color can come to Nookcolor.com and apply to submit their apps. We would love to see more apps come to our platform. This device, Nook Color is actually built on the Android platform 2.2. So, any developer can qualify to submit apps. [Bryan] So, anybody developing Eclipse probably can move over to Android if they need to. Is there an SDK that they can go and look at? [Claudia] We have and SDK add-on for the Android platform that they can download from our website. And, it's just a plugin to the standard SDK. [Bryan] Is there an email or is there any way contact you? [Claudia] They should just go to NookColor.com and sign up! We want their app. So we look forward to hearing from them.

  2. I think it would be cool to see some posts on layout techniques and theming. There’s definitely a large gap between the basic beginner standard UI elements app and the high quality custom themed apps like Pulse. Perhaps a post showing how you would create a popular app’s UI (purely from a layout perspective). Android app development
